When I called some of the Swedish members of that branch yesterday to tell them about the photos, they promised to send photos of their families, too. Thanks Joyce and Tom!

I've also moved Edla's, Andrietta's and Justina's sections to the main page, so now you can scroll through the entire family on that page.

The symbols in front of people's names will tell you how we are related. People sharing the same symbol are either siblings (if they have the same parents), first cousins (if they have the same grandparents), second cousins (if they have the same great grandparents), third cousins (if they have the same great great grandparents) etc. etc.

Their granddaughter, Carol Erickson of Portland, OR, has provided a lot of info on her family, as has her mother, Rachel Erickson of Stillwater, OK. There are also some family photos in the pipeline. Thanks, Carol and Rachel!

Check out Edla's and Andrietta's pages (which will soon be transferred to the main page). Those pages can be reached via blue buttons next to Edla's and Andrietta's  names in the 'First Emigrants' menu). There are lots of new cousins there, both in the US and Sweden!

It's the oldest family photo I've ever come across.

September 5

A new addition to the family, this time a Swedish one: my daughter Katarina Hübinette gave birth to a boy (4kg, 52 cm) five hours ago. The proud father is her partner Alexander Lindqvist. The even prouder maternal grandfather will take some photos tomorrow and post them on the website.

 August 17

Edla Hübinette's family tree is now complete (a few dates are missing) and, provided that you have kept me updated of additions to the family, the website now contains all the descendants of  Lars Wilhelm Hübinette. I've counted the people listed on the website and it turns out that Lars Wilhelm/Ulrika Eleonora now have 478 descendants, 411 of whom are alive today. About two-thirds live in the USA (307 as compared to 104 in Sweden) We're a big family!

I've also changed the symbols in front of people's names, so that they consistently show what generation a person belongs to.

August 9

I have found one more child in Lars Wilhelm's family.

Frank, Selma etc. had a younger brother by the name of Lars Otto, b. 1870, who died at the age of 9 months.

August 7

(See August 2)  I've now completed my research into the families of Andrietta Hübinette and Justina Hübinette (Frans, Selma and Wilhelmina's sisters in Sweden) and their family trees are now complete.

I still have some work to do on Edla's tree but I hope to be able to finish it this week. I've also been promised family photographs by some of the relatives I've traced, but it will probably be a while before I can post them.

August 5

I've added some twenty letters to the 'Letters from America' section. They were sent by various US members of the family to Ingeborg Larsson in Sweden (Levida's husband Eric Larson's sister). Most of them are from Levida, but there are also letters from Elsie Ash, Bill Streffon and George Larson. As usual, they contain a lot of interesting pieces of family history.

August 4

I have found the name of Lars Johansson-Weier's wife (the second generation in the Ekström family tree). Her name was Brita Johansdotter and she was born around 1690.

August 3

I've scanned a notebook in which Gustav Ulrik recorded the births of his children. You'll find it under a blue button next to the photo of Gustav Ulrik and maria Lovisa on the main page.

August 2

I've begun to research the families of Gustav Ulrik's, Frank's and Selma's sisters Edla, Justina and Andrietta (the ones who stayed in Sweden).

I've had a lot of help from one of Edla's descendants, Eina Dexter, who lives in Svartvik in the summers and Green Valley, AZ in the winters. You'll find the new pages by clicking on the blue buttons under Edla's, Justina's and Andrietta's names in Family Tree I.

July 27

I've added two postcards to the collection of 'Letters from America', one from Herbert Haddon Hübinette to my grandmother Ruth and the second one from Levida to Ruth. I've scanned both sides of the actual postcards so that you can see what they look like. The card from Herbert is the earliest family correspondence I've found so far (1911). In it, he mentions Fritz' visit to Sweden that year.

July 4

My aunt, Sigbrit Rehn, has written about her parents (my grandparents), Ruth and Oscar (see 'Memories of Ruth and Oscar' under Ruth on the main page).

 June 28

I found a postcard that Jenny wrote to her parents in Svartvik in 1916.  I've posted it on the 'Letters from America' page. Does anyone know if the Union Depot in Joliet is still there? It's an impressive building.

I have a new Guestbook provider. Please read the instructions on the Guestbook page. I have saved the old messages and will soon make them available to you again (on the Guestbook page).

June 16

Three new photo's in the photoalbum, two sent by Don Johnson (Jenny's family) of Victor, Jenny and Genevieve Andersson and one sent by Erik Barrington (Ed's family) of himself, his Jennifer and daughter Alexis. Thanks Don and Erik!

Many thanks, Beverly!

April 3  Richard Hubenet has written about his parents Fritz and Karin
and his document also contains a lot of family photos. You'll find it under
'Fritz' on the main page. Thanks, Richard!  The 'Letters from America' pages have been extended and you'll now find letters there from Levida, Beda, Ed, Elsie and Ellen. You'll get to that page by clicking on 'Letters from America' in the left-hand screen menu.

March 10 Who are these people? If you know, please drop me a line!

lars.hubinette@telia.com

March 4  As she was going through a couple of cardboard boxes in her basement, my Aunt Sigbrit found a lot of letters from the US sent to my grandmother Ruth in the 1950s by Levida, Beda, Ed, Ruth Rohel, Genevieve Johnson and others.

I'm in the process of translating the ones that are in Swedish and I'll scan the ones in English. Subject to the approval of the writers' relatives, I'll then post them on a new page which can be accessed via the link 'Letters from America' in the left hand menu. There are now nine letters there from Levida and I'll post more in the next few weeks.

February 3  Lots of new (old) family photos from Sweden (see Photo Album / Ruth).

January 22  Sadly, my uncle Bertil Rehn, the husband of Sigbrit Back-Rehn,
died yesterday in his home in Sävar. He was 84 years old.

January 15  Going through some old photo albums I found at my parent's place
I came across photos of our common ancestor, Lars Wilhelm Hübinette (the father of Gustav Ulrik, Frank, Selma and Wilhelmina) and his wife, Ulrika Eleonora Ward. You'll find them in the 'Family History' section. I also found two very old photos of Gustav Ulrik and Maria Lovisa, probably taken when they were in their twenties, i.e. around 1875 (see Gustav Ulrik Hübinette on the main page). I also found photos of my great grandparents, Otto Back and Julia Kindahl (see under Ruth - blue button next to the photo of Oscar Back.)

                                                 2005

December 3 Fixed some odds and ends and, for those of you who are musically inclined, added a link to my son John's website where you can listen to music he wrote. You'll find the URL next to his name on the main page, or here: http://hem.bredband.net/minefield/ac/

Chris Hindricks (Selma's branch) sent me an e-mail informing me that his sister Joanna Gray and her husband Erik had a daughter, Nora Lynn, on October 13. There is a photo of Joanna and Nora Lynn in the photo album (Selma). Congratulations, Joanna and Eric!

As you may have seen, I've also begun to post photos of the spouses of the Hübinettes on the main page. However, I'm missing a few photos, so if anyone has a photo of Frank's wives (Ellen and Anna), Ed's first wife (Hilda Marie) and Beda's first husband (Gustav Lindstrom), I'd be very grateful for a copy.

August 25 I've posted some photos taken when Sally (Levida's grand daughter) and Paul Hahn visited us in early August this year (see Photo Album/Levida). We really enjoyed having them here in Umeå. In addition to the five second cousins Sally met in Umeå she also got to meet two second cousins on her grandfather's side in Östersund (Mary and Kerstin, see one of the photos). I'll post some more photos from their visit shortly.

June 29  Today I had an e-mail from Leona Nason McMoam, grand-daughter of Ingrid and Leonard Ekstrom (Selma's family). She sent me an update on her family which you can see on the Ekstrom page (under Selma).

April 27  Jenny and Victor's grandsons Don Johnson and Woody Anderson have sent me some memories of their grandparents. I really enjoyed reading them, especially since I know so little about my grandmother's siblings. You'll find the new page under a blue button on Jenny's page.

February 12  I've scanned some of the Jacksonville documents mentioned below (Feb 1). Click on a blue button on Edward's page (Fritz Hubenet -> Edward)).

February 4 Three new photos in the photo album of my first cousin Ulrika Mogren (Back) and her family (see under Ruth).

February 1  Dr. Theron Snell of the University of Wisconsin has sent me several very interesting documents relating to the sinking of the Jacksonville. Unfortunately, I haven't yet had time to scan them all but I will do so shortly. However, I have posted some ULTRA intercepts that Dr. Snell sent me

January 30  There is now a Sorensen page on the website, which lists the ancestors of Marie Christine Sorensen's Danish ancestors. I'm indebted to Ingemar Svensson - a distant relative of Diane's - for much of the information. Click on the button next to Diane's name on the main page (under Selma) to access the page.

                                                                      2004

September 26  I've added two new pictures of Jenny and Jenny/Victor to the Photo Album.

September 21  As you know, the Swedish side of the family is greatly outnumbered by the US side, so I'm happy to report two new Swedish additions to the family: Simon b. 2003, the son of Jonas Back, and Hanna b. 2004, the son of Oscar Back (see under Ruth).

September 12 Ginny Highdon, Billie Watson and Eleanor Corrigan have sent me  more information about Frank's second wife, Anna. Her married name was Buffa and I'm currently trying to find her maiden name. If anyone knows what her Swedish name was or where she came from, please drop me a line.

August 31  I've added some genealogical information on Martin Alexander's family in Sweden (Ellen's family). There is also a new entry in the Guest Book submitted by Chris Hinrichs (Selma's family), who also provided a few birth dates and places of residence I didn't have before. Thanks, Chris!

August 8 I now have access to the entire US Census collection (1790-1930) and I've spent the past few days finding dates I didn't have, checking names and spellings etc. etc. I have made a few changes and many additions. There is now a lot more information about Wilhelmina's family. I've always have problems finding information about that branch and today I found out why: Per Gustav Strombeck went by the name Peter in the USA and his wife Wilhelmina is listed as Minnie in the censuses. I've also added a few images from the census records (Wilhelmina and Axel Johnson).

If anyone would like me to look up a person in the Census Collection, just send me an e-mail

Thanks Dahn!

June 18  Thanks to information provided by Anna Mae (Eckstrom) Gronert and Carol (Eckstrom) Wilson, the Ekström page is now considerably larger than before.  I've also included a photo of a uniform of the type worn by Karl Jakob Ekstrom when he was in the Swedish Army in the late 1800s.

June 15  I've done some research in the Sundsvall parish records on behalf of Ed Hubennette, a fourth cousin of ours. June 2  Jack, Diane and Jonathan Ekstrom brought a lot of family photos with them when they visited us in Umeå last week. You will find those photos under "Selma's family" in the Photo Album, together with some photos I took during their visit. They also brought a VHS tape with some fantastic family movies from the 1930s and onward that I wish you all could see. There is also a new photo of Don, Tish, Dane and Britt Johnson (Jenny) and one of my cousin Olle Rehn and his family (Ruth).

The Photo Album is now so large that I've had to split it up into ten separate files. The downside of this is that you can no longer scroll through the entire album, you have to use the buttons in the start menu to see the photos, the upside is that you won't have to wait so long for the photos to appear.

April 4  An American friend of mine, Rick Jones, has written a piece for our website about his impressions of Sweden and the Swedes. You'll find it by clicking on "Sweden through American Eyes" in the left-hand menu.

Thanks, Rick!

March 8   Cheryl Farny has sent me photos of members of the Farny and Shoop families (see the Photo Album under Levida).

February 26  Avis Benning sent me some dates I didn't have before (Selma's family) and she also identified the children in the photo taken in Selma and Abel's living room (see the Photo Album). They are Kenneth and Roy Ekstrom, not, as I thought, Avis and Kenneth.

January 8  I've finally found a photo of Wilhelmina Hübinette and Per Gunnar Strombeck. It's been in the website Photo Album for nearly a year, but I thought the people in it were Selma and Abel Ekstrom. Thanks to Alan Johnson and Avis Benning for helping me with the identification!

October 6  I've included the grandchildren of William Ekstrom in Family Tree II. There'll soon be more information about that branch of the Ekstrom family. I've also added birth and death dates for Axel Johnson (Selma's family).

In the left-hand menu you'll find a new item, 'Obituaries'. I've scanned obituaries I've found for Ivar Strombeck, William Hubenet and Victor Anderson.

October 2  Thanks Alan and Avis for sending me your father's birth date. I'll see what I can find about him in the church books.

August 27  I had hoped to be able to locate some living members of the Ekström family in Sweden, but today I found that all the children of Karl Jonas Ekström-Karlsson (the only one of Abel's siblings who returned to Sweden)  emigrated to the USA between 1905 and 1922. See the Ekstrom page under Karl Jonas.
August 19  I've added a page with information about Stanley Johnson's ancestors (see under Jenny Hübinette). There is also a new picture of a model my father made of the saw mill at Svartvik (click on the new link 'Svartvik' in the menu).

August 18  One more Ekström generation: Johan Persson b. 1732 and Sara Persdotter.  The Ekström family tree now contains nine generations.

August 13  New information about Abel's generation of the Ekström family. I just found out that all but one of Abel's siblings emigrated to the USA.

August 11  Some additional information on the Ekström family. Turns out there were two more emigrants in that family. Two sons of Abel Ekström's brother Karl Erik - Johan Oskar and Abel - emigrated to the US  in 1910 and 1911.

August 9  More information on Selma's family. Thanks June!

July 31  I've found the parents of Karl Jakob Ekström (Abel Ekstrom's father, click on the blue button under Selma Hübinette). While going through the church books for Sävar, I also found that one of Abel's brothers, Leonard, emigrated to the USA in June 1900. Please let me know if you have any information about Leonard.

to make it easier to read, and I've also updated Family Tree II.

June 30 More family photos from Umeå (Sigbritt's family).

A new photo of Frank on the main page and, in the Photo Album, a photo of Frank and Gustav Ulrik and his wife taken when Frank visited Sweden in 1895.

Today I found hundreds of old photos from the US that my Aunt Sigbritt inherited from my grandmother. I scanned and posted six old photos of Selma's family, but I need some help identifying some of the people in them. I'll post as many of the others as possible, starting with the ones that have names on the back (about 30), but it will take a while to scan and enhance them.

I've also found a new member of the family, Howard, the son of Ivar Strombeck (Wilhelmina's family). All I know about Howard at present is that he lived in Detroit. I'll try to find some more information about him.

June 26 More family photos from Umeå and a few pictures of the city.

June 25  A few more photos of my family.

June 15  Don Johnson has sent me a very interesting book, Past Imperfect, by Carol Daus (Santa Monica Press, Santa Monica 1999).

It describes the process of tracing one's family medical history with a view to finding information that may help prevent diseases from striking one's family, and contains many useful tips about possible sources of such information.

Swedish church books contain some medical information, such as chronic diseases, mental illness, cause of death etc. It might be of interest to you to know that I have not found any serious diseases in our family in the course of my research. On the contrary, many members of our family lived unusually long lives and most of them died of old age (see the Family Tree; please note that life expectancy for a Swedish man in the 17th century was about 30 years, in the 18th century about 34 and in the early 19th century about 40).

I've also posted a photo of Ellen Alexander taken when she visited Umeå around 1915-1920 (I have not yet found any information about her journey) and the travel document that Levida used when she visited Sweden in 1936.

June 12  Finally, a few photos of my family (see the Photo Album).  There'll be many more in the next couple of weeks!

June 11  I've added marriage dates for Selma and Abel Ekstrom, Frank and Ellen Hubenet, Ellen and Martin Alexander and Victor and Jenny Anderson which I found in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/genealogy/forms/marrsrch.html

May 26  Thanks to Linda Holman (Lois Delander's daughter) there is now a lot of new information about Wilhelmina's family on the website.

I've also added a few pieces of information to the Brief Family History
and a new table (under the family tree) which I hope will you give a better picture of how the first Hubinette emigrants were related.

Also, I've finally gotten round to buying a new digital camera, so there will soon be some more pictures in the Photo Album of us Swedish Hübinettes.

May 23  The family website will not be accessible on May 26 between 01:00 and 06:00 GMT as the server will be closed for an upgrade of the transmission speed from 2*100Mb to 1Gb.

May 11  Some new photos in the photo album, one of Marty Alexander and one of the Larson bookstore in LA.

May 1  As some of you may have seen, there have been two messages in the Guestbook that have nothing to do with our family. To safeguard against such messages, I'm going to install a function which allows me to approve messages before they are posted. Unfortunately, this means that there will be a delay before your messages are posted, but it seems to be the only way to avoid further messages of this kind.

May 1  Many thanks to Kathy Warren for helping me locate Lois Delander's descendants. I've been in touch with Linda Holman and you will soon find a lot of new information about Wilhelmina's family on the website.
April 29  There a new photo under 'Unidentified photos' in the Photo Album. Does anyone know who the couple is?

April 24
Thanks to Mary Wiksten in Östersund, I've found Bill Streffon's great great great great great great grandparents (b. 1624 and 1630). Click on the blue button under Levida Hübinette for more information.

April 23  Found a nice photo of Eleanora, Levida, Beda, Jenny and Ed. See under 'Miscellaneous photos' in the Photo Album.

April 17   Our family website has moved to a new location. The new URL is  www.hubinet.com/familyweb

There will be a link to the new location at the old address for at least a couple of months.

The reason I moved the website is that the site is getting increasingly big, and my Internet service provider has not been very accommodating in providing more server space. Also, the new address is much easier to remember. There will now be plenty of room for all the hundreds of new and old photos you'll be sending me!

April 15 More information on the King branch of Frank's family provided by Jacquie Machulis. Thanks Jacquie!

April 7  The big family tree (the button under the 1580-1900 tree) is now updated with the latest information about Frank's family.

April 7  Lots of new information about Frank's family, thanks to Billie Watson (Eleanor Corrigan's daughter).

March 26  I've found a lot of new information about Wilhelmina (see under 'The First Generation of Emigrants' on the main page)  in a Swedish emigration database, in church books for the Parish of Svartvik and in the US Social Security Death Index. Her husband's name was Per Gustav Strömbeck, and in addition to Nora and Ester, she also had two sons who were born in Sweden. Per Gustav emigrated in 1887, and Wilhelmina left Sweden the following year together with her sister Selma (Ekstrom).

March 21  Death dates for Frank, Selma and Wilhelmina. It appears that Wilhelmina's married name was Strombeck, not Stromberg.
March 20  I've included an excerpt from the 1910 US Census showing Frank Hubenet's family (see under Frank Hubenet below).
March 15  Lots of new information about Selma's and Frank's families. Thanks to Ginny Higdon and Avis Johnson (Benning) for providing me with such thorough updates!
March 10  In the left-hand menu, and below the family tree further down on this page, you will find a new tree in which I've included all members of the family from Gustav Ulrik's, Wilhelmina's, Frank's and Selma's generation up to the present day. Please let me know if you find any mistakes in it.

I've also sent out a document containing all members of the family to relatives on the eMailing list. If you are a family member and would like to be included in this list, please send me your e-mail address.

March 8 I've spent several days trying to locate Lois Delander's descendants but no luck so far. Lois' daughters are Marcia Ann, m. to Robert Arthur Johnson, Linda Sue, m. to Daniel Van Holman, and Diane Jean, m. to James Know Holman. Marcia has three children,
Jeffrey Mark, Deborah Lynn and  Matthew Todd. Linda Sue has two children, Daniel MacArthur and Heather Linda, and Diane Jean has two children, James Adams and Hilary.

Please let me know if you have any information about them. All I have right now is their names.

March 3  I've finally found ten of Wilhelmina's present-day descendants (see under Wilhelmina Hubenet below)! I'll contact them as soon as possible and ask for more information about their families.

February 20
More photos of Bill Streffon's family!
February 17 Alan Johnson (Selma (Hubenet) Ekstrom's grandson) has sent me additional information about Selma's and Wilhelmina's families: Lois Delander had two brothers, Donald and Richard, and her mother, Nora, had a sister named Ester McFadden. Ester had two or three children. One of them was named Dwight. Alan also gave me the names of his mother's (Ella Ekstrom's) three brothers, Glen, Roy and Bill. If you know anything about these relatives, please drop me a line.

You'll also find in the Photo Album some new family photos that Bill Streffon (Levida's grandson) sent me.

February 14  I have added a few more dates to the family history. The family tree now also includes Noe, who is believed to have been the father of Aman Hubinet. He was probably born around 1580.

February 9 The Swedish course is now on line. Some of my beta testers have reported problems with the sound clips. For some reason, Windows Media Player sometimes cuts them short. I don't know what causes this problem, there is nothing wrong with the sound files, I've checked them several times and everything works just fine when I run them from my own computer. Please let me know if you encounter any such glitches. I haven't had time to finish the word list at the end of the page, but I will add more words in the coming weeks. I will also add more exercises.

February 1 Links to Swedish newspapers, Radio Sweden etc. (see the left-hand menu). The Swedish course page will be opened in a couple of days.

January 20  I found some additional information about Wilhelmina's family in two obituaries for Eleanor (Nora) and Albion Delander in the Evanston Review. Unfortunately, the Evanston Public Library could not find Lois or Ralph in their obituary index, so I still haven't managed to trace any of Lois Delander's three daughters or seven grandchildren.

If you have any information about Wilhelmina's relatives, please let me know. I'm running out of leads.

I've also added a link to an online Swedish/English-English/Swedish dictionary (see the left-hand menu).

January 18  New photos in the photo album, some additional information about Ruth, Ed and Ellen's husband Marty.

January 16  More family members on the 'Where do they live' map ( Michigan, Minnesota and California).
January 14

A new first page. The menu is now in the left-hand frame.

More photos (Ed's family). Two new additions to the family: Owen John, b. 2003 (Maryka and John Tracey) and Grace, b. 2002 (Shad and Michelle Hallihan).

January 12  Some new photos in the Photo Album, which is now on a another server (you can still access it via the main menu). There is now room for many more pictures in the album, so if you have family photos you would like to share with the rest of the family , please send them to me!
January 5

Thanks to Rick and Tom Jenkins for an update on Frank Hubenet's family!

January 3

1. Maps of the USA and Sweden showing where the members of our family live. If you're not on the map, it's because I don't have your address. If you would like to be included in the family e-mail and mailing address list I've made (it will only be sent to members of the family), please drop me a line. I hope I've got the geography right! In a few cases, it was not possible to separate the places of residence, as they are located so close to each other (e.g. the Chigago and Los Angeles areas). Please let me know if you find any mistakes in the US map!

2. A photo of Herbert Haddon Hübinette.

3. There is also some new information about Edward Hubinet (Fritz's son) and the ship he was on in WW II.

4. A new photo of Ruth Hubinette (Back)

5. I've included a page with some genealogical links.

6. Thanks to Richard Hubenet, I'm now in touch with Frank's family, through Elenette Jenkins and her sons Tom and Rick. They've promised me an update shortly.

7. I've moved the 'Unidentified Photos' section to the Photo Album.

8. The Swedish course link is not yet available. I'm working on a basic course in Swedish with sound files, as I've had several e-mails about Swedish words and phrases.

The size of the website is now close to 9 Mb and I only have 10Mb of server space. However, my Internet provider has promised me another 20Mb on two different servers, so I'm going to move parts of the website to those servers shortly. This means that there'll plenty of space for more photos.

                                                 2002
